Summer Solstice and You
The longest day of the year is almost here—and with it, the radiant energy of the Summer Solstice. This powerful seasonal shift is more than just a change in daylight hours; it's a potent moment of celebration, magic, and manifestation.
What Is the Summer Solstice?
The Summer Solstice occurs when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky, typically around June 20-21 in the Northern Hemisphere. It's the longest day of the year and marks the official beginning of summer.
Energetically, this is a sacred time when the veil between the physical and spiritual realms is thinner, making it a powerful portal for intention-setting, honoring abundance, and stepping boldly into your power. The Earth is at her peak of fullness, life is bursting forth in every direction, and the sun offers its most generous outpouring of energy.
Cultures across the world have honored this day for centuries:
Ancient Celts celebrated with bonfires to strengthen the sun's energy and encourage a bountiful harvest.
Stonehenge still draws crowds each year to witness the sunrise alignment with its ancient stones.
Nordic and Slavic cultures, solstice rituals included dancing, feasting, and creating flower crowns to honor fertility and nature spirits.
This solar peak is a spiritual turning point—a time to honor the light, reflect on your growth, and set intentions for the rest of the year.
The Energy of the Solstice
The energy of the Summer Solstice is bold, electric, and sacred. It’s a celebration of fire—the element of transformation, vitality, and divine will. As the sun stands still in the sky, it invites you to pause, breathe, and recognize your own brilliance.
This is a time to:
Bask in your achievements and acknowledge how far you've come.
Fuel your passions and step into your creative fire.
Recharge your inner light and radiate it outward.
Embrace joy, sensuality, and the pleasure of being alive.
Solstice magic encourages you to say yes to life, to open wide to your desires, and to remember that you are a co-creator with the Universe. The energy is expansive, golden, and full of potential. If you’ve felt stuck or unsure, this is your cosmic nudge to take inspired action.
Summer Solstice Altar
I like to refresh my altar with the solstices (and sometimes more often too). This sacred space is a touchpoint for your intentions and energy work.
To cleanse your altar space:
Start by removing any old or stagnant items.
Clean the surface physically, then energetically using smoke (sage, rosemary, or palo santo), sound (bells or singing bowls), or salt water.
Open a window to let fresh air and light flow in.
Things you may want to include on your Summer Solstice altar:
Candles in gold, yellow, or orange to represent the sun and your inner fire
Sunflowers, marigolds, or roses to invoke summer's beauty and abundance
Citrus fruits like oranges or lemons for joy and energy
Crystals like citrine, carnelian, or sunstone to amplify confidence, passion, and vitality
Symbols of the sun such as a sun wheel, mirror, or gold disk
Written intentions folded and placed beneath a stone or candle to charge throughout the season
This altar becomes a beacon of light and power—a sacred space to reconnect with your goals and the sun's vibrant energy.
Summer Solstice Ritual: Ignite Your Inner Light
Tools:
A candle (gold, yellow, orange, or white)
A small mirror or bowl of water (for reflection)
Pen and paper
Optional: flowers, herbs like rosemary or sunflowers, or a sun-charged crystal (like citrine or carnelian or sun stone… amazonite would also be amazing to use)
Steps:
Cleanse your space: sage you area and use salt to protect from negative energies)
Light your candle and place your mirror or bowl of water nearby. Decorate your space with seasonal flowers or symbols of summer.
Reflect: Take a few moments to breathe and reflect on the past six months. What have you accomplished? What are you proud of?
Write: On a piece of paper, jot down what you want to bring more of into your life: Be clear on your desire.
Speak it aloud: Hold your paper near the candle and say: “On this longest day, I honor the light within me. I call in [your intentions] with joy, clarity, and power.”
Seal the ritual: Fold the paper and place it under your candle or on your altar. Let it charge with the sun's energy throughout the day.
Close with gratitude: Thank the sun, the earth, and yourself for showing up. Spend some time outside, basking in the literal and energetic light of the solstice.
