Mythical Animals: What the Hippogriff Spirit Guide Teaches About Our Duality in Modern Life (Suzi's Secrets #25)

There’s a funny duality to living as a woman in today’s world. Most people who meet me would probably describe me as just another woman juggling a busy life — raising kids, writing books, surviving grocery store prices, and trying to maintain some sense of order while chasing dreams. Truthfully, what they see is “the busiest person they’ve ever met.” They see all the things I do, and wonder how? But beyond all of that, behind the externally busy lifestyle, the everyday moments and polite small talk, is a part of me that thrives and has always lived in the quiet in-between. The part that moves with intuition, whispers to the moon, and keeps one foot in the magical realm of the cosmos even when the rest of me is pushing a shopping cart and checking off to-do lists.
If you’ve ever felt that same tug, that sense that you don’t fit neatly into the single role you’re expected to play (and let’s face it, most women do!) Then you might understand why the hippogriff showed up for me recently as a spirit guide. Half eagle, half horse, it is a creature woven from opposites: sky and earth, instinct and intellect, wildness and loyalty, love between enemies (theme from my next trilogy, funnily enough!). It represents the people who live between worlds, those who hold two truths at once and somehow make them work in harmony. I represents the union of opposites.
The more I sat with its symbolism, the more I realized how deeply the hippogriff mirrors the dual nature so many of us carry, including myself. The modern woman who handles responsibilities with grace and, and the quiet witch who senses things long before they happen. The intuitive soul with ancient knowing, and the grounded human who still has to fold laundry and remember to buy dish soap. The one who blends energy work with everyday life. The one who writes romantasy novels while also manifesting her dream life through small, intentional rituals. The one who moves seamlessly between the mystical and the mundane because, honestly, that’s just who she is.
The hippogriff reminds us that our contradictions aren’t flaws. They’re power. You don’t have to choose between being practical and being magical. You don’t have to dim the witchy side of you to fit into a world that favors logic over intuition. You don’t have to pretend that your softer edges don’t exist, or hide your inner knowing because others might not understand it. You are allowed to be both the grounded woman people see and the cosmic goddess your soul remembers.
Working with the hippogriff’s energy invites you to explore where you’ve been living half-truths. Where you’ve felt split. Where you’ve compartmentalized your magic because it felt easier than explaining it.
It asks you to consider: What would life look like if all the parts of you were allowed to exist in the same space? What if the world didn’t have to understand your duality for it to be real? What if your in-between nature is actually your strength?
This creature teaches courage. The kind that comes from embracing every layer of who you are. It teaches discernment. The ability to know when to soar and when to stay grounded. And it teaches you to move between worlds without losing yourself in either one.
And honestly? That duality is exactly what shapes my writing, my magic, and my author life. My upcoming romantasy series is full of heroines who discover they are more than they ever believed, women who stand between worlds and learn that their contradictions are what make them powerful. That theme didn’t come from nowhere. It came from the parts of me I used to silence, the inner magic I kept tucked away, the sides of myself that didn’t quite match the role society expected me to play.
The hippogriff appeared to remind me that I don’t have to choose. I can be the woman who pays bills on time and the woman who whispers intentions to the moon. I can be a mom, an author, a modern woman, and a quiet witch all at once. So can you.
This week, I invite you to reflect on your own duality. Where do you live between worlds? Where are you ready to stop hiding the magical pieces of yourself? What part of your inner witch is ready to step forward, quietly or boldly, and finally be seen?
The hippogriff is here to guide you through that exploration. Not to change you, but to remind you that you already are both sky and earth, instinct and intellect, magic and matter.
And that is your power.
